On Daddy's birthday, after the Carter's arrived in town, we all (along with Aunt Livia) went to Lake Jacomo and rented a 24 ft pontoon boat, so that we could meander around the lake just enjoying the warm sun, the cool mist from the waves crashing against the sides of the boat, and the fellowship with one another.

We let the kids do a little "fishing", but they had no luck catching anything (although it is no surprise, because all we did was tie some eye "hooks" onto a string that was attached to a tomato stake, and let the kids try to catch fish with them). They don't have to know all the details of their equipment!!! The excitement of fishing was enough to satisfy their souls...for at least about 5 minutes anyway (hence the lack of better effort on Dad's part).

Those fish gave Philip a swim for his money. No luck for him either!
It was hot out that day, so the water seemed quite inviting. The problem was, that nobody brought along their swimsuits. But what difference does that make. Apparently it doesn't make any difference to Colin, who readily stripped down to his underwear and got right in.

Even more to my surprise, it must not have mattered to Momma either, because she got right in with all her clothes on.

After an hour or so on the lake, we went and had dinner together, and ate like kings at Applebee's.
On Sunday, we all enjoyed a relaxing day together at Church.
On Memorial Day, before the Carter's had to drive back home, we got to spend the morning together at Union Station, where we went through a Chronicles of Narnia exhibit. It was really cool, but they would not allow photos. After that we got to see a little train exhibit that they have all-year-round at Union Station, and then we ate a delicious gourmet Italian all-you-care-to-eat buffet lunch, for like $8 per person. It was grand.
All in all, it made for a very nice birthday, and a very nice weekend. We miss the Carter's always, and don't know when we will be able to visit them again, but hope it is soon.
